Clinical Need
Let's Meet
Veena
In 2017, one of our founders’ grandmother, Veena, was diagnosed with a form of atypical Parkinson’s Disease. Since her diagnosis, the muscle and grip strength on the right side of her body has declined, making common tasks such as cooking and feeding herself much more difficult to do independently. She cites issues such as frequent dropping of utensils as well as difficulty maintaining a firm grip on them to be the most menacing when she eats and cooks.
Keeping Veena, as well as the approximately 10 million people living with Parkinson’s Disease in mind, we sought out to develop a solution to help those suffering from weakened grip strength maintain comfortable, autonomous lifestyles. Current assistive devices involve additional weighting or heavy serrated grips to reduce slippage from user’s hands, but limit users in flexibility to apply these solutions to the wide range of tasks involved in daily life. Our innovative brace allows users to securely use whichever utensils they feel fit for the task at hand.
Objectives
Autonomy
Our device aims to help you or a loved one maintain their way of life independently. Our device can be administered and loaded by one hand with little to no assistance.
Discrete
No one enjoys being stigmatized in public, so our comfortable brace design is meant to generalize and reduce visibility in public. Check for the release of our skin tone version!
Flexible
We want everyone to be able to enjoy our product, so it's adjustable velcro straps account for most sizes and most utensils.

Final Design

Our final design combines comfort and appearance to achieve the same objectives mentioned before.
With combination foam/fabric as a basis for the brace, comfort is never an issue! The soft and flexible material avoids the chaffing and itching of constricting materials of other braces.
The storage loop allows for easy and discrete storage when the application is not in use!
Look out for our skin tone palette when released for additional discreteness!
